The Climate Pledge

The Seattle NFT Museum is a platform for the climate impact conversation.

Not all NFTs are equal

Today, some of the most popular blockchains are very energy inefficient, and those chains are racing toward proof of stake models that will significantly reduce their carbon footprint. Today, we already have a host of blockchain technologies that are focused on green transactions to reduce their carbon impacts such as Solana, Wax, Tezos, Avalanche, and many more. In many ways, NFTs have the opportunity to be more carbon neutral than other types of physical museums that require shipping, and climate-controlled storage of art. With NFTs, we can share art with the click of a button.

Our goal is to use the museum as a platform to increase awareness of critical societal questions, such as the climate impact of NFTs.

What is the museums' position on climate impact of NFTs

Sustainability is a core value of the Seattle NFT Museum, and the goal of our team is to always encourage the move to carbon neutrality for all NFT projects. That is why we have committed to operating with net-zero emissions and have applied to join The Climate Pledge.

What is The Climate Pledge

The Climate Pledge is a call to businesses and organizations to take collective action on the world’s greatest crisis and to work together to build towards a safe and healthy planet for the next generations. Bringing together those that are prepared to run the furthest and fastest, The Climate Pledge calls on signatories to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2040—10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement. Amazon co-founded the Climate Pledge with Global Optimism in 2019, and became the first signatory of the pledge.
